Our SKSS Jazz Band and Senior Jazz Combo ensembles are heading to
NATIONALS!
Our SKSS Senior Jazz band and Senior Jazz combo ensembles have both been awarded gold standing at the BC Interior Jazz Festival in 2023, qualifying them to attend MusicFest Canada Nationals in Toronto, May 13-18 of 2024. We are now actively fundraising to take these talented and hard-working young musicians to Ontario next spring, and we need your help!
We invite you to learn more about our jazz students below, as well as about this year's big Nationals Fundraising Campaign! Together, we know we can offer our young musicians the well-deserved opportunity to represent Kamloops at MusicFest Canada.
We are the SKSS Jazz Band!
Our high-perfomance jazz band meets twice per week at 7am to rehearse before the regular school day begins. This motivated group consists of skilled musicians from grades 8-12 who are devoted to mastering upper level jazz, funk, rock, latin, jazz ballad, and other musical stylings. Our crew is geared up for nationals and ready for the challenge!
We are the SKSS Senior Jazz Combo!
Our talented Senior Jazz Combo students meet once or twice per week, at lunch time or after school, to choose repertoire and master their selections. The group has performed at the BC Interior Jazz Festival, the Kamloops Farmer's Market, the SKSS graduation ceremonies, the Dick Dickens/Don Bennett Memorial & Scholarship Benefit Concert as well as at the many concert events put on by our SKSS Music Department. This high-performance jazz group consists of a rhythm section and two lead instrumentalists. They are ready to give it their all in Toronto next May!
