District, Provincial, and National Youth Ensembles

School District 73 Honour Band and Choir Ensembles

Every year, School District 73 brings together the finest student musicians from across the district to showcase their incredible talents. With the challenging repertoire, concert band and choir students gain valuable skills and are provided an enriching opportunity to work with a distinguished guest director. Students also work side by side with other music students from across our district, thereby bringing our community even closer together. This district-supported event provides our young musicians with an enriching experience where they get to shine, and every year many of our SKSS musicians are present in the ensembles.

BC Music Educators’ Association Provincial Honour Ensembles

Our BC Music Educators’ Association Provincial Honour Ensembles are top notch! Students from across the province audition for only a few spots in each of the five ensembles, which include: string orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, vocal jazz, and jazz band. After rehearsing together for only two to three days, Provincial Honour students showcase their talents at the BCMEA provincial conference for hundreds of music teachers who attend to see and hear each year’s top students in the province. A few of our SKSS musicians have held spots in the past years, and we are so proud of them.

MusicFest Canada Ensembles

Each year, MusicFest Canada brings together outstanding student music ensembles from across the country to perform, learn, and celebrate musical excellence. The festival features a wide range of ensembles, including concert bands, jazz ensembles, vocal jazz groups, choirs, string orchestras, and full orchestras. These groups showcase the talent and dedication of young musicians at the national level. Participants not only perform for adjudicators and audiences but also take part in clinics and workshops led by professional musicians and educators, making the festival a vibrant hub of musical growth and inspiration.

The competition for MusicFest Canada National Honour Ensembles is fierce! National performances are showcased on-site each year at MusicFest Canada Nationals, where one would find Canada’s finest student musicians spotlighted on the national stage. South Kamloops Secondary School is proud to recognize that students from our own school have played on the national stage, and we could not be more proud of them.
